You told me you had arranged to go away,
This I did not want to believe.
Distressed, I pleaded with you to stay,
But my grief remained when you took your leave.
They said they saw you in sunshine and clouds
With beams shinning through bright canvas of color.
I’ll bet you couldn’t hear their voices loud
With engine roaring over hearts murmured holler.
Love of flying was your vibrant song, but
Engine stopped, heart dropped, soul went away.
Broken heart was what went wrong,
Your soul soars through heaven day after day.
Guiltless souls remain here still
To torture family hearts left behind,
Forgiveness for them must come from you,
Your tragedy still weighs heavy on our minds.
Loving brother, your marker I visit
Standing beside sister, brother, father so still.
Other family sojourns quietly, separately, solemnly,
Knowing someday we shall share your freedom’s will.
